Other MA Commemorations

Many organizations throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts held thoughtful commemorations of the tenth anniversary of 9/11. The events are listed here. The listings include links to any available recordings. (Some recordings are streaming and others are downloadable.)

Massachusetts Remembers - A concert and ceremony in tribute to America
and the heroes and the fallen of that tragic day
Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011
Esplanade in Boston
The two-hour tribute included readings, poems, prayers, and time for reflection and remembrance. A special musical program was performed by the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble and Boston Children’s Chorus.
12:00 noon - Non-profit community service booths opened to register volunteers.
12:30 pm - School children’s Flag Mural opened.
2:45 pm - Riders for Beyond the Bike, a three day memorial bicycle ride from New York’s World Trade Center to Boston’s Charles River Esplanade, made their arrival.
3:00 pm - Memorial Concert and Service began.

Battleship Cove 9/11 Memorial Service
Sunday, September 11th at 8:30 AM
Sponsored by the Fall River, MA Area Fire and Police Departments
The Fall River Fire Department obtained piece of the steel from the towers, which was displayed. The program included a 21-gun salute, dove release, and wreath laying. Local dignitaries were in attendance.

Back Bay's faith communities will gather together to mark the 10th anniversary
Ecumenical & Interfaith Worship Service combining Judaism, Christianity, Unitarian Universalism and Islam

Each participating house of worship will suspend their own individual services to share in an inclusive liturgy reflecting our common life and ideals as American people of faith.
Music by the combined choirs of the participating congregations and a special blessing for children.
There will be limited seating for those who need it and others are asked to stand or bring folding chairs.
