New York and Elsewhere

Here are the Commemoration events we are aware of that are happening around the country. If you learn of other events you would like to see posted here, please send us an email with the details.

New York City

Official Commemoration, September 11, 2012

The official NYC commemoration will be held at the National September 11 Memorial, which is located at the WTC site in NYC. Six pauses will represent the moments each tower was struck and fell, and the moments of the attacks on the Pentagon and Flight 93. The first moment of silence will be at 8:46 am and houses of worship are encouraged to toll their bells at that time.

This year, the reading of names by family members will be the exclusive focus of the program. As in previous years, music will provide a poignant backdrop to the day.

The commemoration will conclude at approximately 12:00 p.m., and the 9/11 Memorial will remain open to family members until 8:00 pm. The "Tribute in Light" will return at sundown. This powerful symbol will carry us through the night and into the next day.

Please call (212) 442-8953 if you have any questions.

Note to family members: Please check your mail or browse the 9/11 Memorial web site for the latest letter from Joe Daniels about the official events in NYC.
