Fourth Quarter Service Project

Sat, November 19, 2011 8:30 AM

Dear families:

As Thanksgiving draws near, it is another opportunity to be thankful for the support we have received over the last ten years and for the family that we've become. We continue to find ways to "pay it forward" through our quarterly service projects," and this season provides us with a chance to do something good together.

Catholic Charities will hold their annual food and turkey distribution at the Yawkey Food Pantry in Dorchester on Saturday, November 19 from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. Please arrive on time so you can be assigned your task and be in place when the families arrive. Approximately 1000 people get turkeys and items for their meal preparation on that day, either by driving up or walking up to the distribution center.

The address for the Yawkey food pantry is:
Catholic Charities
185 Columbia Rd
Dorchester, Ma.02121

In the past, the 9/11 families have found this to be a meaningful service project, so we are offering them our assistance again. This entails packing food bags, handing out turkeys, pies, or vegetables. Volunteers will either be asked to bag food items or pass out food at one of the stations.

Please be aware that most of the time, with the exception of the bag stuffing, is spent outside, so please check the weather and dress accordingly!

In addition, as they rely on their shelves being well-stocked to serve the largest number of families possible, Beth Chambers and the food pantry always welcome donations of canned goods or dried food; boxed cereals(costly items so high in demand) canned soups, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, etc.

If you would like to join our fourth quarter day of service for this Thanksgiving Food Drive, please contact Diane Hunt from the Family Advisory Committee at 781-585-3674 or email her at huntlarry278@comcast.net.

We look forward to hearing from you. Adults and children of all ages are welcome!

Kind regards,

Teresa Mathai and Christie Coombs
