Accomplishments

The Fund continues to provide financial assistance, programs designed to foster resiliency and strength, advocacy, information, and referral services. Here are just some examples of the accomplishments to date:

Grants to Families
As of June 2010 the Fund has provided approximately $2,276,696.00 in grants to families. Here are some examples of the types of support that has been provided:

  • lost wages while maintaining several-month bedside vigil for a loved one fatally injured
  • a 9/11 victim's debts and home mortgage left to their family
  • grief counselors
  • short-term financial support to aid surviving family members to become self-sufficient when the loved one had been the sole provider
  • lost wages for a surviving family member suffering from the effects of the traumatic death of their loved one
  • reimbursement of partial health insurance premiums or out of pocket health care costs for families participating in the Health Care Support Program
  • lost wages for the time family members needed to travel to New York and attempt to help find their loved one's remains
  • respite day care for the children of a widower whose wife cared for the children part of the week

With the assistance of Mayor Thomas Menino, the Boston City Parks Department, the Friends of the Boston Public Garden, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, and the United States Department of Agriculture, the Fund dedicated a public memorial on the Arlington Street side of the Boston Public Garden on July 12, 2004.
